Spring Trends 2014
We were jealous of all the college students so us over here at Charming Couture took a lil’ Spring Break too. Now we are fully ready to take on the new season! Up in New England we are SO ready to welcome the warm weather! To get everyone pumped up for Spring, I thought I’d share some of my favorite spring trends for this year.
Not so mellow yellow- pops of neon are a major trend for Spring! I love these neon shades mixed into business casual outfits… It definitely makes the work day a little less boring! Yellows are a great way to brighten up your closet. How cute does that yellow cardigan look mixed with the polka dots in the photo above?!
Girly twirls- have a Carrie Bradshaw moment in these big tulle skirts this spring! They are such a girly moment and perfect for this floral season. Make the look a little more casual and add a solid cardigan with it!
Denim with a twist- mix up your usual denim this spring! Add a fun pop of neon, or a super feminine shoe to those boyfriend jeans!
Outfit of the Day… Charming Couture Style
The perfect mix of business and casual, we love the look Lisa is rocking today! This Mystree blazer is perfect for day to night transition, and we love how she accessorized her outfit with her Mi Moneda necklace and tan suede booties! The perfect outfit to fight off those Monday blues!
All About Advice… Embrace Belts.
For the longest time I never really looked twice at belts. I guess I was just oblivious to their magical powers. Once I realized how essential belts are to any outfit, I started to never leave the house without one. Just wearing jeans and a t-shirt? Add a simple tan leather belt to your outfit to pull your look together and give it a preppy feel. Wearing a shift dress that isn’t doing too much for your figure? Cinch your dress in at the smallest part of your waist and instantly you have a more defined silhouette! Above is a fun little video I found on four different ways you can style a belt! I love this video because it shows how to turn even the most simple outfit, into something very unique! Talk about a new way to spice up your entire closet!
Celeb Style Spotlight… Lupita Nyong’o
I love nothing more than bright colors and unique cuts, and if there is one celebrity that knows how to rock both, it is Lupita Nyong’o. THIS is the celebrity to watch for when it comes to style. Wearing mostly bold solid colors, she gives it a twist by using very unique cuts such as her outfit at the Producers Guild Awards. The dress that sealed her spot in the fashion hall of fame though would be her flawless, and I mean flawless, red cape dress at the Golden Globes. It is always refreshing to see someone embrace bold colors, and I am excited to see how Lupita’s style evolves over time. Considering she is a fresh face in the industry I can’t wait to see all her amazing looks she gives us in the future, because let’s face it this girl is the next big thing in Hollywood!
All About Advice… Love What You Wear
Self confidence was always a difficult challenge for myself growing up. There were many different ways I eventually developed a healthy sense of self confidence, but the biggest part was discovering my own sense of personal style and being comfortable with myself. This all came from a very simple place of…. I only wear what I love. Confidence is what allows you to wear whatever you want and rock it to the fullest, and the only way to do that is to love both yourself and what you wear. Do not buy pieces just because they are the new trend and everyone is wearing them. Sure we are here to keep you updated on the latest trends, but when I’m working with clients I only sell them what they love. I tell my clients all the time to only buy items that they love, because when you love an outfit you WANT to wear it. And that is what exudes confidence.
Now I fully understand that self confidence can sometimes be a very hard mountain to climb, and an outfit that makes you feel beautiful and happy is only a small step a long that mountain, but hey remember it is still a step! Have fun with clothes and enjoy fashion, but remember always always be yourself!
Some of my favorite looks from the Tadashi Shoji RTW Fall 2014 collection. So beautiful!

Trend Forecast… Pastels: This Ain’t Your Mama’s Easter Basket
When one thinks Spring Fashion the first thing to pop in their heads is floral. Queue Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, in her best fashion editor voice saying, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” So sure keep a few rosey pieces in your closet, but let’s talk trends. Pastels have been popping up like crazy lately, and it really has me changing my opinion on the usually Easter associated color scheme. For the fashionistas skeptical of the new color scheme, treat these pastel tones as you would your pop of color. Add a sleek pale lavender clutch to your all black jumpsuit, completed with some gold accessories. For the braver souls, embrace your inner Cher and Dionne from Clueless and really rock those pastels. 90’s style skirts are being seen more and more, and in a pop of pastel it would be the perfect fun and edgy piece for spring!
Celeb Style Spotlight… Kerry WashingtonToday’s celebrity style spotlight is all about Kerry Washington! I can appreciate someone who just genuinely has fun with fashion. It’s refreshing to see a mixture of fun patterns and funky silhouettes, as well as reviving classic styles in a unique way. I enjoy viewing the recent red carpet looks specifically to see what Kerry Washington was wearing. She is the new Fashion Icon, but she doesn’t let that new found title stifle her style. She could be wearing a classic 50’s inspired dress one night, and then the next be wearing a edgy crop top and pencil skirt. All while following my number one rule in fashion… To have fun! Kerry Washington’s style is one the everyone, at any age group, can relate to. I look forward to seeing her style evolution continue and spotlighting her fashion in the future as the the style icon that she truly is!
